Do you know the weever yet? No? You are not alone! However, the weever is an oh-delicious fish. The weever is related to the perch-like fish, but is similar to the sole in taste.
The weever swims in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and in the North Sea. There they swim in both deep and shallow sea. The weever is known to be poisonous. Indeed, both on the back and behind the fins, this fish has spines on which you can hurt yourself well. In the worst case, a sting leads to (temporary) paralysis. So it is best to be careful where you put your feet in the seawater. No worries! At the North Sea, of course, we make sure all poisonous spines are removed before you take the fish home. A weever is delicious whole in the oven and also in fillet (in a nice butter sauce)! The weever season starts at the end of September and continues until the beginning of summer.
