Salmon with Label Rouge

Ever heard of the sustainability label “Label Rouge”? The label is a prestigious French government quality mark that monitors the quality, taste and strict production conditions of various food products, including salmon. The label is internationally recognised.

The Label Rouge for salmon focuses specifically on Scottish salmon. This is generally considered to be top quality and is often organic. The Label Rouge focuses on two main pillars: the environment and animal welfare.

Scottish salmon

Scottish salmon with the sustainability label live in a large, demarcated area of the sea and are able to swim freely. To give you an idea: only 1% of salmon are found in the “demarcated” area of the sea in which they swim. This allows the salmon to feed naturally from the sea. The salmon are not treated with preventive medication or colourings.

The Label Rouge was created in 1960.
